For Mentors

Mentor Code of Conduct

Every mentor on Anubhav Setu works to one standard. It protects the people who trust us with their stories — and it protects mentors too.

Last updated: September 2026

01The method

Every conversation follows the same discipline: Listen → Understand → Guide → Refer. The first conversation is attention, not advice. Guidance comes from lived experience, and referral happens the moment a matter needs regulated expertise.

02Confidentiality

  • What is shared in a conversation stays within Anubhav Setu.
  • Never discuss a mentee’s situation with family, colleagues, other mentees or on social media — not even anonymised — without explicit consent.
  • Store no personal notes outside the platform’s official records.
  • Observe the safeguarding exceptions: risk of harm, risk to a child or vulnerable person, or legal obligation may require escalation, discussed with the mentee wherever possible.

03Competence and honesty

  • Guide only within your genuine experience and competence.
  • Never present yourself as a psychologist, doctor, lawyer, financial adviser or other regulated professional unless you hold that qualification and are engaged in that capacity.
  • Say “I don’t know” when you don’t. Refer clinical, legal, financial and other regulated matters to the Professional Panel without delay.
  • Never promise outcomes. Mentoring offers perspective, not guarantees.

04Boundaries

  • Keep every relationship professional. No romantic, sexual or financial involvement with mentees.
  • Never accept gifts, loans, investments or business favours from mentees beyond the platform’s agreed terms.
  • Do not solicit mentees for your own business, political or religious interests.
  • Respect agreed session times, formats and channels; contact outside sessions only through the platform.

05Respect and dignity

  • Treat every person with dignity regardless of age, gender, caste, religion, language, region, disability, sexuality or economic background.
  • No judgement, no labels, no lecturing. People bring us things they have not been able to say out loud; honour that courage.
  • Language and conduct must never demean, harass or discriminate.

06Reliability

  • Keep your availability accurate and honour confirmed sessions.
  • Give reasonable notice when you must reschedule, and record sessions faithfully so follow-ups stay coherent.
  • Stay current with orientation, training on confidentiality, boundaries and active listening, and periodic review.

07Safeguarding and escalation

If a conversation reveals someone in immediate danger, a child or vulnerable person at risk, or any situation beyond mentoring, a mentor must escalate to the operations team and the Professional Panel at once — never handle it alone, and never ignore it.

08Standing down

Breaches of this code — especially of confidentiality, boundaries or competence — may lead to suspension or removal from the network. Mentors may also step back at any time; experience offered freely must never become an obligation that harms the giver.
